My Grandparents ( Actually My Godmother's Parents )Joseph & Jessie Stewart Came to OAKLAND, During The War in The 1940's...My Grandpa Joe Came First,Then sent for His Wife, and Their Only Daughter;Callie Lee,later on....My Mother Azeal Moss,Came in 1949-1950
A Couple Years Before My Sister Loretta was born,And My Sister Jamilah Came less than 2 Years Later...I Came About A Dozen Years Afterwards, in 1965....My Parents and Grandparents Came to OAKLAND, When "THE KEY SYSTEM" was still running. "THE KEY SYSTEM" was A Predesesor to "BART" as well as "THE AC TRANSIT BUS LINES", As We Now Know Today....You Know,My Parents,As Well as Well as My Grandparents had told Me stories about "THE KEY SYSTEM",Especially "THE 'A' TRAIN",Which ran-up and down east 14th street (also called International Blvd ) to Down Town Oakland, through Emeryville...way across The Lower Part of The Bay Bridge, into The City of San Francisco! From 1939 unto That Very Last & Final Day;April 20th,1958 did "THE KEY SYSTEM" GO ACROSS THAT BAY BRIDGE!
I also Remember My Folks telling Me About "THE GOOD OL' DAYS"...and The Price and Value of Goods, back then! How $1.00 went much further in The 1950's & 1960's,Than It Went back in The 1970's! And Speaking of The 1970's; How I Remember When My Mother:Azeal Moss...How'd She Always Bring Home Those "Nickle Bags" from when She'd go to RENO,and Get Lucky From Her Winnings from playing on them Nickle Slot Machines, back in the day, when We lived over at 1915 ~25th Avenue, during The 1970's....And The Times We Went to DownTown Oakland,To "Housewives Market,Swans,Newberrys,And Over at Woolworth's",when it was over at The MacArthur & Broadway Shopping Center,Right across the street from MOSSWOOD PARK, which in turn was much, much bigger...over 100 years ago.....a whole lot of History, over at that place...Yet, A Whole lot of Locals Still Don't Know The Lush History of This Park...When it was Still Private Property,Back Then! Then, there was The Rainbow Car Wash (same area)....And who could forget food back then? YUM! Let's Start with SWANS MARKET & HOUSEWIVES MARKET back in the 1970's these were the places to Really EAT,back then! It was kind a like The EMERYVILLE MARKET PLACE...Today,But Seperate Buildings, right across from one another....
